PRESS: Operators have no certified equipment to store user data

MOSCOW, Jul 3 (PRIME) -- Russian connection operators are unable to implement the data retention law, in force since July 1, because of a lack of certified equipment to store content of phone talks and correspondence, business daily Kommersant reported on Tuesday, citing the Federal Communications Agency.

“At the moment, the system of certification in the connection industry does not have certificates of compliance for technical means of accumulation of voice information for investigative activities,” the agency said in a statement.

The law requires from connection operators and a number of online services to voice information, SMSs and electronic messages of users keep for six months starting from July 1.

A manager of a mobile operator confirmed that there is no certified equipment to fulfil the law.
